The Lifecycle of an Asphalt Shingle

We all know that the minute you drive a new car off the lot, the car begins to depreciate, but did you know something similar can be said for a new roof? When installing your new roof, your residential roofing specialist should inform you that the minute the final nail is in the last shingle, your new roof will begin to age and depreciate.

If you have never heard that before, don’t panic! Your roof is on the exterior of your home and because of this it is constantly exposed to harsh environmental conditions and weather. Everything from sunlight, wind, rain, a rogue frisbee, pesky squirrels, and more can contribute to the aging of your roof. While this can be frustrating, it is also just a fact of homeownership.

As a residential roofing specialist in Denver, Wichita, and Kansas City, the Farha Roofing team wants to make sure you are fully aware of the expected lifespan of your roof. Today we are going to walk you through the full lifecycle of an asphalt shingle so you know what to expect.

The Lifecycle of an Asphalt Shingle

Stage One: New Roof

Your residential roofing specialist should tell you that stage one begins as soon as the last shingle is nailed in place and the last roofer is off the ladder. This stage lasts for approximately 10-15 years, but can vary based on your local climate.

During the new roof stage, you may notice rapid signs of aging, but this is normal. As the new roof and shingles adjust to their environment there tends to be more significant granule loss, a bit of curling around the edges of shingles, and the occasional blister. This rapid aging process tends to slow around the two year mark and as long as the structural integrity of the roof is sound, there is no cause for concern.

Stage Two: Mid-Life Roof

The mid-life stage typically begins after the 15-year anniversary of your residential roofing specialist finishing the project and lasts for up to 35 years. During this time you will likely notice signs of aging and weathering, but there shouldn’t be a significant amount of aging just yet. We do recommend adding a maintenance plan to your roof after the 18 year mark or so.

During the mid-life stage the most important thing you can do to protect your roof’s longevity is keep up with routine maintenance. Work with the team at Farha Roofing or your residential roofing specialist to schedule regular inspections and act quickly on necessary repairs. Doing so will ensure that your roof does not deteriorate any quicker than expected.

Stage Three: Old Roof

After the 35 year mark, your roof is officially an older roof. Once it reaches this stage you will likely notice the aging process begin to accelerate and you may begin to toss the word replacement around with your residential roofing specialist again.

If during your routine inspection your inspector notices excessive signs of aging such as cracked or missing shingles, staining, blistering, and exposed bald spots it likely is time to replace your roof. You should also start paying special attention to water spots or stains on the ceiling as you are more susceptible to leaks during this stage.

At Farha Roofing, we know that your roof and shingles are longterm investments that enhance your property and keep your family safe. In order to best protect your investment, work with a trusted residential roofing specialist who uses the highest quality materials and holds the proper licensing and certifications for your area.

If you think your roof might be entering Stage Three, give the team at Farha Roofing a call today to schedule a free inspection with our experts!

Roofing Financing for the Budget Conscious Homeowner

Replacing or repairing your roof can be an expensive endeavor. Because of the financial burden, top roofing companies often receive clients who have been delaying replacements and repairs for months and even years.

As one of the top roofing companies in Kansas, Missouri and Colorado, Farha Roofing believes it is our responsibility to ensure our clients feel empowered to make the best financial decisions for their unique circumstances.

Today, we are sharing the advice top roofing companies give to their clients with you! Below is Farha Roofing’s guide to roofing financing for the budget conscious homeowner, keep reading to learn more.

Max Out Your Insurance and Warranty Coverages First

When reviewing financing options for a roofing replacement the first thing you should do is evaluate your insurance and warranty coverage. Depending on the reason for replacement, the age of your roof, and the terms of your coverage, the amount available to you will likely vary.

Although coverage will vary, this should always be your first step because it will influence your remaining out of pocket expenses. Depending on the out of pocket expenses you will incur during the project, you will likely consider each of the below options differently.

The majority of top roofing companies will also have experts on staff who can advise you on the insurance process and how to go about filing a claim. You can find Farha Roofing’s insurance claim advice here.

Next Use Cash

Once you have maximized your insurance coverage and any warranties available to you, the next step is to take a look at the cash you have on hand. If you have savings available to you in an emergency fund, a roof replacement is certainly an appropriate time to consider tapping into said fund. By using cash that you have on hand first you will reduce interest payments over time and save money in the long run.

If you only have enough cash to cover part of your roofing costs that is also an option. Any little bit you can take out will help you save money, even if you need to consider other options for the rest.

Then Look at Company Loans

Most top roofing companies will have financing options available to their clients. At Farha Roofing, we have two financing options for our clients to choose between based on their needs, credit scores, budget, and project scope.

Top roofing companies typically have dedicated financing teams on staff. After you receive an estimate for the work, you can request a meeting with the financing team to go over the options available to you. The experts on staff will be able to recommend the best financing plan for you and your individual financial situation.

And Finally Consider Alternate Banks and Lenders

If you have a bank or lender with whom you have an established relationship with and you would prefer to work with them for financing that option is also always available to you. When working directly with banks and lenders, make sure you have a clear idea of the exact loan amount you need, your credit score, and the monthly payment terms you feel comfortable with.

The terms and conditions of your loan will also likely be based on varying factors such as your credit score, other outstanding debt, total repayment time, and amount borrowed. Read through all documents and agreements before signing and if there are any questions or concerns on your end, it never hurts to have a third-party review everything.

At Farha Roofing, we know how personal finances are to each and every one of us. That’s why we always recommend when working with any of the top roofing companies, you seek their finance teams advice on the best options for your situation.

If you have been delaying a roof replacement due to financial concern, give our team a call today. We will come to your property for a free inspection and based on the estimate provided help determine the financing option that makes sense for you.

4th of July Roof Safety

There are burgers on the grill, trays of fresh watermelon on the table, and children swimming in pools across America — it is almost the 4th of July! While you are likely excited for this year’s socially distanced neighborhood BBQ and carefully planning your family’s contribution, it is also important to consider the potential dangers of the holiday we see as a roofing company.

The last thing we want at Farha Roofing is to be a buzzkill, but our main priority is ensuring our clients are informed about the dangers of fireworks and their roofs. Knowledge is power and knowing the ins and outs of 4th of July roof safety will help you have a safe and fun holiday. Even if you are not planning on setting off fireworks yourself, you never know what your neighbors are planning and it is important be prepared.

Below you will find a few tips from our roofing company to ensure a festive 4th of July!

Clean Out Your Gutters

Fallen leaves and debris tend to collect in your gutters and can easily catch on fire if a firework spark lands on your roof. This risk is easily mitigated by having a roofing company clean out your gutters before the holiday.

Repair Any Damage

Before the 4th of July, you should consider having a roofing company inspect your property and check for any missing or damaged shingles. If the roofing felt paper below your shingles is exposed it can easily catch fire from a wayward spark. Replace any missing or broken shingles before the 4th to offset this hazard.

Trim Tree Limbs

As any roofing company will tell you, it is important to trim low hanging tree branches to prevent punctures and damage from fallen limbs. However, around the 4th of July it is even more imperative to make sure your low hanging tree limbs are trimmed. If a low hanging tree limb is hit with a rogue firework it may catch fire and spread to the nearby roof.

Spray Down Your Roof

If you are going to be in town on the 4th of July consider spraying your roof down with your hose. The water from the hose may help prevent stray fireworks from starting a fire and doing so will in no way harm your roof.

Chat With Your Neighbors

Ask your neighbors what their plans are for the 4th of July. If they plan on setting off fireworks it is important to know ahead of time so you can prepare. You should also look out for each other and should you notice any signs of fire, work as neighborhood team to act quickly.

Do Not Climb

It can be tempting to climb on your roof to better see fireworks in the distance, but as a roofing company, the team at Farha Roofing advises against this. Climbing on your roof can be extremely dangerous and should you slip and fall you may sustain serious injuries. Stay safe and watch the firework show from the ground this 4th of July!

At Farha Roofing, we know that the 4th of July is many of our client’s favorite holiday! Enjoy the day, but practice roof safety to prevent the day from turning into your least favorite holiday. And last but not least, please always remember to observe the laws and regulations of your community in regards to fireworks!

Commercial Roofing Trends

Commercial Roofing Trends

If you are in the market for a new commercial roof for your building this spring, it has hopefully been a while since you last found yourself in this position. Because of that, you are likely unfamiliar with the current state of the industry. While commercial roofing may not be featured in this month’s hottest fashion magazines, there are roofing trends that change over time just like any other industry. At Farha Roofing, it is our commercial roofing contractors job to make sure that we stay on top of these trends in order to make the best recommendations to our clients.

To help make your roofing decision a little easier, the Farha Roofing team is sharing the biggest commercial roofing trends of 2020 with you today. Keep reading below to see what they are!

More Advanced Software

In the past few years we have seen a surge in the capabilities of popular roofing softwares. The advancement of these technologies has allowed commercial roofing contractors to take better measurements, provide more accurate estimates, improve customer management, and allow for better record keeping.

Increased Use of Drone Technology

The increased use of and availability of drone technology has allowed commercial roofing contractors to utilize drones for roof inspections. Adopting drone technology has made roof inspections significantly safer for commercial roofing contractors and reduced the number of accidents the industry sees.

Higher Demand for Green Roofing Options

In the past few years, people have started to really understand the importance of protecting our planet and this understanding has influenced many buying decisions. Clients want to see green roofing options from their commercial roofing contractors in everything from materials used, recycling of old roofs, and proper insulation and ventilation to optimize energy usage.

Solar Roof Options

Solar roofing panels have seen an increase in popularity over the past few years as well. Although they do come with a significant investment upfront, the decreased heating and cooling costs along with a reduced carbon footprint have many business owners evaluating this option.

Flat Roofing

Flat roofing has always been a popular choice for commercial roofs thanks to the economical and practical benefits that it offers. Flat roofing works for most budgets, offers a few different options to help you go green, and will continue to be a popular choice for years to come.

Metal Roofing

Although metal roofing is typically a bigger upfront investment than other materials, most commercial roofing contractors feel that it is a worthwhile one. Metal roofing lasts anywhere from 40 to 70 years thanks to it’s durable and protective nature. If you are in need of a roof replacement, talk to your contractor about metal roofing.

Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are a tried and true roofing option. Asphalt shingles remain one of the more affordable roofing options, but that is not the only reason they are popular. They also come in a wide variety of colors, materials, and styles, allowing you to match them to any sort of architectural design you desire.

If you are in the market for a new commercial roof, the Farha Roofing team is here to help. Give us a call today to speak with our Wichita, Kansas City, or Denver based teams!

Our Story

Farha Roofing Story

At Farha Roofing, we consider our clients to be a part of the family and it is important to us that you get to know us as more than just your local roofing contractors. Today we are sharing our story with you so you understand who we are, where we came from, and where we are going next. From humble beginnings as one of many roofing companies Wichita KS saw launch 10 years ago to a presence across the midwest region, we still remember our roots as your local roofing contractors.

Keep reading below to learn more about our journey and share some of your own story with us in the comments below.

Where We Began

Farha Roofing was founded 10 years ago in Wichita, Kansas. Growing up, Ben Farha worked in construction and found a love for watching something distressed and worn turn into something beautiful again. When considering taking the risk and entering the roofing industry himself, he saw an opportunity to serve his community while doing what he loves.

Farha Roofing was founded with the mission to create a brand synonymous with quality, care, craftsmanship, and a universal aim for excellence. When building the foundation for the company he led with “TIPPS”, the core values we still follow today — Team First, Integrity, Professionalism, Positivity, and Safety.

Where We Are

In the past 10 years we have expanded our presence across the midwest region. Five years after a couple of friends got their start knocking on doors in Wichita, we expanded to Kansas City increasing our commercial and residential footprint across the plains and two years after that we added Colorado to our portfolio.

We are extremely proud of the work our team of local roofing contractors has done over the past 10 years. In the early days in Wichita, Shocker Hall at Wichita State was one of our first big projects. It included the housing dorm and cafeteria of 110,000 square feet and this milestone confirmed our belief that we were on the right path as local roofing contractors.

In St. Louis, the Major Brands 300,000 square foot liquor distribution plant is one of our roofer Kansas City crew’s biggest accomplishments and it helped put us on the map in this region.

Our Colorado team is particularly proud of a project we completed for Granada School District in Granada, CO. This project was unique because when our team began tearing the roof off of the building, they discovered the lightweight deck was crumbling underneath them. This forced our team to devise a new plan and execute quickly to ensure the children could be back in school on time. We are proud to say that despite this obstacle, our team was still able to complete this project in a timely manner.

Where We Are Going

Over the next few years, the Farha Roofing team is excited to fine-tune the machine to allow for future growth and create opportunities for both the company and our employees. As we expand, we are looking to bring on more local roofing contractors and office staff with good character who’s morals and values align with ours. We look forward to continuing to serve Wichita, Kansas City, Denver, and beyond with the same high-quality craftsmanship and service no matter where you are.

If you are looking for a roof repair or replacement in the areas that we serve, our local roofing teams are here to help. Contact Farha Roofing today to learn more about our services and our team.
