The 600,000 square foot Nortek facility in Poplar Bluff, Missouri was recently in need of a roof replacement. Due to a range of roofing services required to repair the old, metal panel roof and help regulate the building’s temperature. After a thorough contractor vetting and evaluation process, Nortek ultimately selected Farha Roofing of Wichita, Kansas City, and Denver for their roofing services.
Project Details
The roofing services Farha Roofing completed for Nortek Global HVAC was the installation of a wind vented overlay system. Step one of the roofing services required the Farha Roofing team to install a custom EPS insulation between the ribs of the old metal panel roof. And attach a cover board on top of it, in order to create a flat, stable surface. The Farha team then installed an air seal detail to create an airtight system around the penetrations and the perimeter of the building.
Next, the Farha Roofing team loose-laid the 60-mil TPO on top of the other installations and installed Windvent technology around the perimeter. The Windvent technology was installed as part of the roofing services in order to remove air from under the TPO sheet, acting as a vacuum seal to hold the roof in place.

The reason Farha Roofing and the client selected this combination of roofing services for the project was because it would allow Nortek to retain the existing roof. Rather than removing it. By doing so, the project caused minimal disruptions to Nortek’s operations. The project was completed ahead of the original forecast, and Nortek was not subject to any roof removal fees.
As a result of the completed roofing services, the building’s temperature regulation has improved dramatically. Nortek has seen a 20+ degree temperature reduction in the space. It is an old building that lacks an air conditioning system, so a 20-degree temperature decrease is a huge accomplishment. The Nortek team has the added insulation and reflective TPO to thank for this change.
