The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Project Description
This project involved a historical roofing system replacement at the historic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Spanning 14,859 square feet, this project was designed to preserve the structural integrity and aesthetic legacy of this prominent structure. To honor the building's history while
ensuring modern performance, durability, and weather resistance, our team upgraded the roof to an advanced synthetic slate system. Given the cathedral’s central urban location and historical significance, the project demanded a meticulous level of planning and coordination to execute safely and efficiently.
Scope of Work
The project commenced with the careful removal and disposal of the aging roof system while prioritizing structural protection. Once the existing materials were stripped, crews meticulously prepared the deck substrate for the installation of a premium
DaVinci Province Slate system in Black, a high-performance synthetic slate selected to provide the timeless, elegant appearance of natural slate without the associated structural weight. Throughout the duration of the project, crews adhered to rigorous jobsite housekeeping and debris containment protocols to keep the active downtown church grounds clear, clean, and accessible. The entire project was successfully executed and completed within a streamlined timeline of approximately 2 weeks.
Challenge
The primary challenge of this project centered on the architectural complexity of the building combined with its high-profile, downtown location. To overcome these obstacles, our team developed a precise schedule to minimize urban traffic disruption and foot traffic congestion, while carefully coordinating construction safety protocols. Through rigorous jobsite oversight and detailed communication, the historic cathedral was fully updated with minimal disruption to the community.
