Project Description

Nortek Global HVAC manufactures high-value heating and air solutions for residential and commercial HVAC markets. The Nortek Central Distribution is an 800,000 sq. ft. warehouse distribution facility. A system with a leak free warranty was considered for the 600,000 sq. ft. section where they were having roof leaks.

Scope of Work

However, there were concerns because the seams and fasteners had already been coated and they were continuing to have leaks. The large metal roof had so much movement between the panels, it would tear the coating open at the seams in some areas. With the recommendations from an independent manufacturer's representative (Adam Scheafbauer), the decision was made to go with a WindSmart System instead. The WindSmart System bid was comparable in cost to the coating system, and the building owner recognized that a new membrane would offer superior protection.

Challenge

The WindSmart vented roof system was installed during early summer 2020 by Farha Roofing. The system utilized the WindSmart metal overlay system which included flute fill, protective board and a 60mil TPO. The system was installed in 13 weeks, with a crew of 8-10 on-site workers, even with significant inclement weather challenges.
